Off the Bobbin

Here's what's come off the bobbin in the last month or so:

From left to right:
--100% merino from Butternut Woolens, spun semi-worsted, chain-plied.

This came out soooo soft. There's about four ounces of it, and I'm not sure what it's destined to become. Considering a wimple. I really love them for under my bike helmet in winter.

--Unknown, probably plain old domestic wool, spun semi-worsted, chain plied (sensing a theme?).
I have no idea where this roving came from. I thought it was painted until I unrolled it and discovered it was a bunch of separate rovings--like samples. I took really thin strips of each color and spun them two at a time in a sort of pattern: turquoise and fuschia held together, then when the fuschia ran out attach gold, then when the turquoise ran out attach brown, etc. It turned out much prettier and more interesting than I could have guessed. Less than four ounces, no idea what to make of it.

--Merino/tencel from Sandy Sitzman, spun semi-worsted, chain plied.
This was the last bump I got in trade from Sandy for hosting her website; it's been "marinating" for about five years, I think. No one else wanted it, which puzzles me to this day. You can't see the color well in that picture, but it's rich, heathered pastels--rose, gold, apricot, blue, lilac, and a sort of green accord. Very shiny, very smooth, very slippery. No idea what it's destined for. About five ounces.

--Domestic wool from gods know where, spun semi-worsted, three-plied.
This yarn is plied from three bobbins of singles I spun when I first started spinning, something like 6-7 years ago: one white, one gray and one in variegated blues. They've been sitting for six years on top of my chest of drawers in my bedroom, until a couple of weeks ago I got sick of looking at it. I took it downstairs and plied it up into the small skein there; the leftover blue singles got chain-plied into a tiny hank. Maybe 1.5 ounces of the 3-ply, less than one oz of the chain-ply. Possibly wrist warmers.

Now on the wheel: Some very coarse deep blues and greens that I think is Corriedale. Very much in a spinning mood. Must be fall.
